Answer Robinhood hacked, affecting more than seven million users
Popular investment app Robinhood recently announced that it had suffered a data security breach on November 3, 2021.
The incident gave the attackers access to the personal information of millions of users of the platform.
Robinhood stated in a blog post that the unauthorized party gained access to its customer support system via social engineering technology.
Although the security threat was contained, according to Robinhood, the attackers did indeed gain access to a limited amount of customer information.
Robinhood Chief Security Officer Caleb Sima said:
As a company where security is an essential component, we owe it to our clients to be transparent and act with integrity.

Seven million customers affected:
Robinhood, which supports several cryptocurrencies, has indicated that investigations are already underway.
Hackers succeeded in obtaining the email addresses of nearly five million users.
In addition, the full names of another 2 million users were hacked.
According to Robinhood, there were approximately 310 customers whose names and email addresses were accessed by hackers, whose zip codes and date of birth were also accessed by the criminals.
In addition, ten customers had extensive details of their accounts that had been hacked.
Robinhood revealed that, after conducting investigations, it is certain that the unauthorized party did not have access to customers’ bank account details, debit and credit card information.
In addition, Robinhood revealed that none of its users suffered any financial loss as a result of the accident.
Hackers demand ransom:
Moments after the situation was contained, the attackers contacted “Robinhood”, demanding an undisclosed ransom for the information.
Instead of meeting their demands, the company said it contacted the relevant law enforcement agencies to intervene in the case.

Attacks on “Robinhood” are not new:
At the same time, it should be noted that this is not the first time that Robinhood has been successfully attacked.
The commission-free trading app was hacked last year, with nearly 2,000 users affected, and although the attackers gained access to customers’ login details, the details were later used to withdraw the affected users’ funds from the platform.
